One of our most frequent volunteers in Dominica lost both the family home and small business during Hurricane Maria in September 2017, and has spent the subsequent months living in a shelter with her husband and two children.
As a matter of policy, Macario Advantage doesn’t support projects that benefit individuals. An exception was made for one family that has volunteered extensively in previous projects and have been unselfish in contributing their time to benefit others. Macario Advantage raised enough money from boaters anchored in Portsmouth, Dominica, to hire a contractor to clear a site for a new home and prepare it for construction. Macario Advantage subsequently donated cement, reinforcing steel and concrete blocks sufficient to construct the foundation and walls. Work on a new home is underway.
